Not everyone is as held together as you might think. In fact, if you could see what is really going on the minds of the people around you, youโd find many are struggling to cope with lifeโs curveballs. Maybe it was a rough day at work, an argument with someone they care deeply about, or they are feeling crushed by the weight of responsibilities or overwhelming stress. |
As someone who has needed a friend I want to offer some practical tips on how you can provide support to someone who is having a rough day.ย Psalm 68:6 God makes a home for the lonelyโฆ |
Be fully present: A listening ear is sometimes all a person needs. Actively listen to their concerns without interrupting or trying to offer solutions. Show empathy and validate their feelings. This alone is huge. Offer a comforting gesture: A small act of kindness can go a long way in lifting someoneโs spirits. Offer a hug, a warm drink, or a kind note to let them know you care. Provide practical help: If you can, offer practical assistance to lighten the load. Help with household chores, run an errand, or offer to take on some responsibilities that may be a little too overwhelming for them at the moment. Be patient and non-judgmental: Itโs important to be patient and understanding with someone who is struggling. Avoid passing judgment on the emotions they may be processing. Respect their feelings and possible need for space, and let them express themselves in their own time and way. Follow up: Donโt forget to check in on them after a little time has passed. Send a message or give them a call to see how they are doing. It shows that you genuinely care and support them beyond the tough times. |
Remember, everyone experiences rough days at some point, and being there for someone can make a world of difference. So, letโs make an effort to support and care for one another. You never know when you may need the same from someone else. |
